Inconsistencies in Template Editing: Why Some Can't Be Changed

Why are some templates unable to edited like other templates. Example the gold template doesn't allow you to change the color of text boxes inside a slide rather it changes the outside of the text box? Shouldn't all templates have the ability to edit.

The theme is Gold Leaf that we have noticed issues around changing the background color of the text box. I tried first in gold leaf to changed the background of the box and it changed the outline of the box. Then i tried in soft cloud template and it wouldn't change the background or outline at all. I then went into cornfield theme and was allowed to change the background of the text box. It seems like some templates prevent you from changing background or sometimes when you click on the three dots it only changes the outside of the box rather than the background of the box. I hope this helps.

the tl;dr explanation this is happening is because of the theme styling settings — the short term workaround is opening hte … menu, clicking “Copy and customize theme”, go to “Design” -> “Blocks and content” -> change the fill

the long explanation themes have a series of settings that control the visuals and sometimes the intersection of them can be a bit unexpected when you go to customize them. what’s happening here is that:
gold leaf has transparent cards and outline/no fill blocks
we have logic that tries to make sure 1) text is readable accessible and bc of that we 2) don’t allow transparent layout boxes, in this case the text box background is the card background color at full opacity
soft cloud and soft coal are a bit unique bc of the neumorphic design — they were some of our earliest themes when we were experimenting and that style doesn’t scale super well (in part due to some of the issues you found) so we stopped creating themes in this style

this is great food for thought for our team! i think there are a lot of good questions we can ask about how to make styling blocks easier to do and understand — appreciate the detail and the followup!!

I appreciate the workaround but if I wanted to fill one card with blue and the other card with green in text boxes i couldn't do it . Because it looks like your way changes all the blocks to be a certain color and to individually change each card colors to be unique. Love the feature you showed because i never knew that was there.
