Hi guys, I am new here, however I am familiar with gamma.app and using it for my side projects. I've been eyeing the API progress but I am still not confident if it is capable of being a central component of one of the features in some startup SaaS app (not central component of whole SaaS). What frightens me are the phantom limits that could be imposed and the small top-ups for credits that look like API is not meant to be used in SaaS, but rather in some private workflows with human-like frequencies of usage. What do you guys think? The feature in question that we are considering to add to the product we're building is the simple social posts generation based on predefined brand kit.
Juraj P. - I'm curious. Are you describing a situation where your SAAS business is going to white label gamma's offering? Eg. Create presentations withing your system and allow users to utilize the generated presentations? If so - that's not typically even allowed in the ToS for systems such as gamma. You would probably need to be talking to someone at Gamma's enterprise sales staff. That's much more of a partnership discussion, for the exact reasons you mentioned. I am however curious to see Gammas response to your question.
Thanks for your question Ryan. In our case Gamma API would be used as internal tool to render document, which is then exported, processed and stored as a standalone asset for further handling. We would not expose directly any of Gamma API endpoints to our users. Similar analogy would be using Powerpoint to create pptx file that you may distribute later- we are not redistributing Powerpoint functionalities, only using a tool internally to produce a file that lives independently after. Isnt that what the API is for in general?
With your last comment what is your concern around this? That you are going to run out credits? Juraj P. There are many people doing that right now with no problems. Also your not providing a service if it is just being used an an internal tool - I would not label/consider that as a SaaS. I do think we have the ability to "top up" credits, I am not sure if we have auto-charge feature either - that way we don't need to worry about "topping up" through the dashboard.
Hi Juraj P. addressing your points below:
Can you tell me more about these phantom limits? We've removed generation caps and have other customers using the API in production for their end users without running into limit related issues.
For the small top ups, we're working on making the top ups more flexible so you can recharge more credits at a time. Right now, we have API customers who are serving things in production with auto recharge on. Would that work for you in the meantime?
To your third point about "Pro plan not being meant for SaaS", I'm not sure I understand. Can you tell me the issue you're running into here?
Thank you all very much for your response, I am already very glad I joined the community. Chowderr M. Since app we’re building is actually a SaaS, and the user paying for it would trigger internal API calling to generate assets for the social posts generation(as part of one of the features we would like to add), we merely wanted confirmation from Gamma if that model of API usage is allowed within Pro plan before investing our time into it. Also auto charge is a great feature. No problem there as I was actually referring to it when mentioning small top ups as a clue. Deeni F. Since we’re yet to incorporate API and app is in development stage there are no limitations that we face but only wondering if some would come up based on SaaS usage model in Pro plan. Yes we like the auto recharge. No issue with the third point, just asking in advance :)
I see, I misunderstood. I thought you were just only using it internally and users would not see anything related to what you generated with gamma. Juraj P.
